The first workshop in the Professional Development Academy workshop series was a huge success! Forty-eight students turned out for the APA Writing Style Workshop on September 17th. Dr. Teagan Decker, an assistant professor and director of the UNCP Writing Center, talked with students about the major rules of APA style and the resources available on campus to help graduate students cite information correctly. Dr. Decker encouraged students to visit the writing center (located in the D.F. Lowery Building) and reference services (located in the Mary Livermore Library) for help.
Students are encouraged to attend our second workshop in the Professional Development Academy—The Healthy Helper: Learning to Balance School, Family, and Career. This workshop will be held on October 29th from 5:30-6:30 pm in room 223 of the Education Building; the guest speaker with be LynnDee Horne, MS, LPC, NCC. There will be two additional workshops in the spring semester.
Remember, attendance at all four workshops will result in a certificate of completion of the PDA that adds value to your workplace marketability and shows commitment to your training as a professional counselor. We hope to see you all there!
