Fall 2012 Field Placement Course Information

A message from the Field Placement Coordinator, Dr. Jeffrey Warren:

If you are enrolled in a Field Placement Course (Practicum/Internship) this semester, please be reminded that students may begin the field experience after the first day of the practicum or internship course meeting.  Students may not begin field placement experiences prior to the first night of practicum or internship class.  Additionally, students must secure liability insurance prior to beginning the experience.  Please bring the Certificate of Insurance (or other proof of liability insurance) to the first night of class. (Practicum and internship instructors will verify liability insurance has been secured that covers the span of the field placement experience on the first night of class.)  There are several ways to secure liability insurance:

If you are a student in the Professional School Counseling Program, I recommend either one of two avenues (in no particular order).

1.        Visiting the website of the American School Counselor Association (www.schoolcounselor.org).  If you join this association as a student member you are provided with MANY benefits, one of which is LIABILITY INSURANCE (at no additional cost).

2.       Visiting the website of the American Counseling Association (www.counseling.org).  If you join this association as a student member you are also provided with MANY benefits, one of which is LIABILITY INSURANCE (at no additional cost).

If you are a student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program, I recommend either one of two avenues (in no particular order).

1.        Visiting the website of the American Counseling Association (www.counseling.org).  If you join this association as a student member you are provided with MANY benefits, one of which is LIABILITY INSURANCE (at no additional cost).

2.       Visiting the website of the American Mental Health Counselors Association (www.amhca.org).  If you join this association as a student member you are provided with MANY benefits, one of which is LIABILITY INSURANCE (at no additional cost).

If you have any questions or concerns about liability insurance or field placements, do not hesitate to contact me.

Best of luck in your field placement experience!
